Specialty Books on Health Care

As information gaps in health care have become obvious BestSeller Books has recognized the need for well-written books that yield wellness advice and solutions to the public and to the medical community. Collaborating with leading physicians and health care specialists, the company has brought out books to inform readers on subjects as varied as Alzheimer’s, back pain, nutrition, osteoporosis, diabetes, managed care, emotional management and physical fitness. Call us if you have a health care project that requires development.

Back Works• One of the dozen or so health care books we've developed is the work of teammates Gloria Loring and Dr. Timothy Gray. They have produced what is assuredly the best book on Type 2 Diabetes ever written by a physician and by a famous mother who was the star of the TV serial, Days of Our Lives, for seven years, and whose insulin-dependent son required that she learn all about his disease.

Gloria raised more than a million dollars for the Juvenile Diabetes research Foundation and, with her new book, will be talking on national TV with major talk show hosts about her understanding of how to encourage adults and children to grow beyond their disease and free themselves from fear, just as she did for her own son.

Editors at BestSeller Books worked closely with Gloria Loring and dedicated physician Timothy Gray, who specializes in diabetes treatment, to bring their important work to the world. It is easy to read, inspirational and helps to banish the fear connected with the disease.

House CallsThomas L. Stern, M.D., practiced family medicine in rural Oregon and in Southern California for a total of twenty-two years. Dr. Stern is an exemplar, a pioneer in family practice medicine. The walls of his study are covered with awards and certificates of achievement in his field. As an orphan, he rose from poverty to a life of service and fame. He lives with his wife, Gladys, in Leawood, Kansas.

“It’s about house calls, delivering babies, my Oregon and California practice, about tragedy and humor. I’ll tell you stories of the warmth of patients’ feelings toward me as their doctor; but especially, I’ll tell you about how I loved each of them, the people who trusted me enough to refer to me as ‘my doctor.’

Dr. Stern“Robert Young often referred to me as his role model for playing the Welby character. i told the stories of my life to producers and writers and they helped to shape Welby into the family doctor most people wished they could find. The television show was not the story of my life, but my book is.”

Anyone who had ever wished for an old-fashioned doctor who makes house calls, or who has recollections of a caring family doctor, will see those values reflected in House Calls. Dr. Stern has helped bridge the gap between the direct, personal healing of the country doctor and the modern media image of the physician. As role model and technical advisor for the Marcus Welby, M.D. television series, the author established a paradigm for family practice medicine.

In House Calls, he tells about some of the lives he has touched, and some of those that have touched his. He is a master storyteller, and his stories range from the profound to the profoundly funny.

Combs• Nancy Reagan endorsed a Long Goodbye and Beyond with these words: “I think this book should be very helpful to many people — especially caregivers.”

A Long Goodbye is a touching story of a grownup daughter who lovingly cared for her mother as she passed through the bewildering stages of Alzheimers that stole away her identity. It is an inspirational guide for every family who must support an aging loved one whose loss of memory is a slow tragedy.
